Beschreibung

This book looks into the possibility how far Christianity can correspond with African traditions and customs in such a way that it is congenial to the African people. The starting point is the observation that African Christians have the problem of adjusting to the Christian Faith. They return to their traditions and customs especially at moments of crisis. Therefore many Christians are torn between adherence to traditional beliefs and practices and their loyalty to Christianity. The important question is whether African Christians can prac-tise their traditions and customs and still remain true Christi-ans. Efforts have been made to understand African traditions and customs with the view of opening them up to the Christian vision. The findings show that the way Christianity was initially presented in Africa needs to be reconsidered. Any solution to the problem opens the way for the development of African Christianity.
