The idea to wri­te this book emer­ged when Rev. Koh­ler taught Pas­to­ral Care and Coun­seling at Mwi­ka Bi­ble School (now Mwi­ka Bi­ble School and Theo­lo­gi­cal Col­lege). In or­der to pro­vi­de an in­tro­duc­tion into Pas­to­ral Coun­seling an en­quiry was made at first into the histo­ry of coun­seling in East Af­ri­ca from the time be­fo­re the mis­si­ons ar­ri­ved. The re­sults are joi­n­ed with con­tem­po­ra­ry con­cepts of Pas­to­ral Coun­seling in Af­ri­ca and also in the Oc­ci­dent in or­der to pre­sent gui­de­lines for all cle­ri­cal and vol­un­t­a­ry staff to mi­nis­ter to God‘s peo­p­le ef­fec­tively. Rev. Dr. Gün­ter Koh­ler was born in Tü­bin­gen, Ger­ma­ny. Theo­lo­gi­cal stu­dies at Au­gust­a­na Hoch­schu­le, Neu­en­det­tels­au, and the uni­ver­si­ties of Tü­bin­gen, Zu­rich, Mar­burg and Er­lan­gen. Ad­di­tio­nal stu­dies in Pas­to­ral Coun­seling in Ber­ke­ley, Ca.. Dr. theol. from Au­gust­a­na Hoch­schu­le, Neu­en­det­tels­au. Rev. Dr. Koh­ler is a re­ti­red pas­tor of the Evan­ge­li­cal Lu­ther­an Church in Ba­va­ria; he taught in Mwi­ka and was in the team of Cli­ni­cal Pas­to­ral Edu­ca­ti­on in Mo­shi, Tan­z­a­nia.
