Ngu­na Dic­tion­a­ry

This is a dic­tion­a­ry of the Ocea­nic lan­guage of Ngu­na, also known as Na­ka­na­man­ga, North Efa­te, or Ngu­ne­se. It is the so­me­what be­la­ted se­quel to Al Schütz’s Ngu­na texts and Ngu­na grammar of 1969. Ngu­ne­se is the main lan­guage of the in­ha­bi­tants of North Efa­te and the She­p­herd Is­lands in Cen­tral Va­nua­tu. With an esti­ma­ted num­ber of over ten thousand spea­k­ers, it is one of the lar­gest lan­guages spo­ken in the is­land na­ti­on. This dic­tion­a­ry is de­di­ca­ted to the spea­k­ers of the lan­guage. May it help them in their ef­forts to main­tain the lan­guage or pro­pa­ga­te a stan­dard or­tho­gra­phy. Mo­reo­ver, we hope it will ser­ve as a foun­da­ti­on for fur­ther stu­dies of the lan­guage and ver­na­cu­lar li­ter­acy pro­grams.
